Survey by NCDC (National Centre for Disease Control) highlighted the need for proper monitoring of CIA to mitigate AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance)

  • Antimicrobial drugs
  • Vital for treatment of serious infections – humans and animals
  • Last defence line when other antibiotics fails
  • Supply limited – misuse accelerate development of antimicrobial resistance, makes them less effective over the time
  • Indispensable for treating complex infections –  Eg:  Multidrug – resistant pathogens
  • Overuse of drugs causes threat to health, increased morbidity, mortality …etc
  • 3rd gen cephalosporin  –  Indian dairy sector (Eg: cefriaxone)
  • Aminoglycosides – India poultry sector (Eg: amikacin) – prevent, control or treat diseases
