Recently, PM of India laid foundation stone for Dibang Multipurpose Hydroelectric Project.

  • flood control cum hydroelectric power project planned to be developed on the Dibang River
  • State – Arunachal Pradesh
  • Developed by – India’s state-run National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).
  • Significance –
    • At 2,880MW installed capacity, the country’s biggest hydropower facility
    • Highest dam structure in the country – A 278m-high and 375m-long concrete gravity dam
    • Have a long reservoir with a gross storage capacity
    • Horseshoe-shaped head race tunnels with an underground Power House 
  • State – Arunachal Pradesh and Assam 
  • An upstream tributary of Brahmaputra
  • Origin at – Near Keya pass (Upper Dibang Valley)
  • Tributaries – Sisar, Mathun, Tangon, Dri, Ithun and Emra 
  • Hills – Mishmi Hills (at upper courses of river)
