Hog deer spotted inside Rajaji Tiger Resrve for the 1st time.

  • Solitary creature – spotted in small group
  • Sedentary and does not migrate
  • Males mark territorial boundary with glandular secretions
  • Native – Indian Subcontinent and Indo- Gangetic Plain
  • Appears to prefer dense forests, but seen in open grasslands, and occasionally in wetlands
  • Conservation Status
    • IUCN: Endangered
    • WPA 1972: Schedule I
  • Location – Uttarakhand (Haridwar)
  • Established in 1983
  • Named after freedom fighter C Rajagopalachari – “Rajaji”
  • Declared as “Tiger Reserve” in 2015
  • Flora: Broadleaved Deciduous Forest, grasslands, scrubland and pine forest
  • Rivers – Ganga and Song
  • Dam – Chilla Dam
  • Other Protected Areas:
    • Jim Corbett National Park (1st National Park of India)
    • Gangotri  National Park
    • Nandhaur Natioal Park
    • Valley of Flower (UNESCO Heritage Site)
