Over 200 Gentoo penguins have been found dead in the Falkland Islands due to the spread of the H5N1 Avian Influenza Virus.

    • A black throat and a brush tail that is large in comparison with other penguin species
  • Distribution – Exclusively located in the Southern Hemisphere
  • Notable concentration – Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean.

    • Predators like Weddel Seals
  • Conservation status – Least Concern under IUCN Red List
  • Location – South Atlantic Ocean (East of Argentina)
  • Capital – Stanley (largest city of the Falkland Islands)
  • Known for – Large colonies of penguins such as Magellanic Penguin.
  • Status – British Overseas Territory
  • Issue – Conflict between Britain and Argentina over the territory
