Conservation Reserve

The Telengana State Board for Wildlife (SBWL) approved Tadoba-Kawal tiger corridor as conservation reserve.

  • Term denoting protected areas which act as buffer zones to connect migration corridors between established national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and reserved and protected forests
  • Designated as conservation areas if they are uninhabited and completely owned by the Government of India but used for subsistence by communities.
  • 1st introduced in the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Act of 2002 − the amendment to the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
  • The State Government may, after having consultations with the local communities, declare any area owned by the Government, particularly the areas adjacent to National Parks, Sanctuaries etc and those areas which link one protected area with another, as a conservation reserve.
  • The State Government shall constitute a conservation reserve management committee to advise the Chief Wildlife Warden to conserve, manage and maintain the conservation reserve.
  • Residents of conservation reserves are not subject to any restrictions on their privileges that does not threaten the conservation objectives.
  • 1st conservation reserve – Thiruvidaimarudur, Tamil Nadu.

Tadoba-Kawal tiger corridor: Corridor area between Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and Kawal Tiger Reserve

  • Also known as Tadoba National Park
  • Location – Maharashtra
  • Divided into 3 separate forest ranges – Tadoba, Morhurli and Kolsa
  • Lakes – Tadoba Lake and Kolsa Lake
  • Location – Telangana
  • Situated on banks of river Godavari
  •  Forms a part of the Deccan peninsula-central highlands
  • Reserve is nestled in the Sahyadri Mountain Ranges
