Context:

Scientists from Bangladesh and Mauritius joined India’s research vessel ‘SagarNidhi’ for a 35-day joint ocean expedition, a significant maritime collaboration under the Colombo Security Conclave framework.

About Sagar Nidhi:

  • An Indian-owned and operated research vessel.
  • It is the first Indian flagged research ship that reached the 66°S latitude.
  • Used for Deep-Sea mining, oceanographic research conducted within the Indian Ocean region.

About Colombo Security Conclave:

  • It is a trilateral maritime security grouping of India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
  • Formed in 2011
  • Mauritius joined later as a fourth member.
