Aral Sea

NASA has reported that, the climate change is accelerating the demise of the Aral Sea.

Aral-Sea
  • An endorheic lake
  • Once 4th largest saltwater lake in the world
  • Bordering Countries: Kazakhstan (north) and Uzbekistan (south)
  • Formed by waters from Syr Darya and Amu Darya rivers
  • Catchment areas – Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Kyrgyzstan

Endorheic lakes do not have a natural outflow and lose water solely by evaporation or underground seepage or both. Examples: Caspian Sea, Great Salt Lake in Utah and Dead Sea.
