Swachh Survekshan Awards:
- Aim – To reward the cleanest cities in the country.
- Launched in 2016 and awarded annually.
- A part of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban
- Ministry: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
- Criteria: Door-to-Door collection of waste, Segregation at source, Cleanliness of public areas, Clean water bodies and Citizens’ feedback
- Other indicators – ‘Open Urination’ (Yellow Spots) and ‘Open Spitting’ (Red Spots)
2023 Awards:
- Leading cities: Indore followed by Surat
- Leading States: Maharashtra followed by Madhya Pradesh
- Bottom States: Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Nagaland and Tripura
- Other Achievements:
- Varanasi named the cleanest Ganga town
- Chandigarh won the award for city having best safety standards for sanitation workers
