Context:
Union Budget 2025-26 provides a historic financial boost for tribal welfare, with a 45.79% increase in funding for the development of 10.45 crore tribal people across India.
Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS):
- Launched in 1997-98 to provide quality education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) children in remote areas
- Coverage: Classes VI to XII.
- Funding: Grants-in-aids under Article 275(1) of the Constitution, offers100% annual grant from Government of India to Staes
- Eklavya Model Day Boarding Schools (EMDBS) – Proposed in areas with a high density (90% or more) of ST population to offer day schooling without residential facilities.
Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM):
- Launch: Introduced for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26.
- Nodal Agency: TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India).
- Objective: To enhance tribal entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities through the sustainable use of natural resources.
- Merger of Existing Schemes:
- Mechanism for Marketing of Minor Forest Produce (MFP): Ensures Minimum Support Price (MSP) and value chain development for MFP.
- Institutional Support for Development and Marketing of Tribal Products: Promotes tribal enterprises and value addition.
Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAAGY):
- Objective: To transform villages with significant tribal populations into model villages.
- Revamped version of the Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub-Scheme (SCA to TSS).
- Duration: Implemented from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan Package:
- Launch: Introduced in 2024
- Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
- Aim: To improve the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities by adopting saturation coverage for tribal families in tribal-majority villages and aspirational districts.
