Anemia Mukt Bharat

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently released details of Anemia Mukt Bharat.

  • Aim – To reduce anemia in vulnerable sections of society, including women and children.
  • Mission – To achieve target under POSHAN Abhiyaan
  • Uses 6X6X6 strategy – 6 target beneficiaries, 6 interventions and 6 institutional mechanisms.
  • Interventions –
    • Prophylactic Iron and Folic Acid supplementation.
    • Ensuring delayed cord clamping after delivery in health facilities.
    • Addresses non-nutritional causes of anaemia with a special focus on malaria, haemoglobinopathies, fluorosis.
    • Biannual mass deworming for age group 1-19 years
  • A condition in which the number of red blood cells or their oxygen-carrying capacity is insufficient to meet physiologic needs
  • Causes – Iron deficiency (most common cause), Vitamin B12 and Vitamin A deficiencies, chronic inflammation, parasitic infections, and inherited disorders
  • Pregnant women and children are particularly vulnerable.
  • Impacts – May result in fatigue, weakness, dizziness and drowsiness.
