Smart Cities Mission:
- Launched in – 2015
- Aim – Improve the quality of life in 100 cities by providing efficient services, robust infrastructure, and sustainable solutions.
- Overseen by – Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA)
- Key Approaches to Implementation –
- Area-Based Development (ABD): Targeted development of specific city areas.
- Pan-City Projects: Technology-driven solutions to enhance city-wide infrastructure and services.
Key Achievements:
- Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCC): All 100 Smart Cities have operational ICCCs utilizing data and technologies such as AI, IoT, and Data Analytics to enhance city operations.
- Public Safety: Over 84,000 CCTV cameras installed to aid in crime monitoring and traffic enforcement.
- Solid Waste Management: 66 cities use technology to optimize waste collection, with RFID-enabled vehicles.
- Health: 172 e-health centers and 152 health ATMs established.
Projects introduced under SCM:
- Cycles4Change and Streets4People: Promotes open spaces for active living.
- Transport4All: Aimed at supporting public transport startups.
- EatSmart Cities: Focused on improving food hygiene and promoting sustainable food practices in smart cities.
