Context:

Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) under Ministry of Education released report on Performance Grading Index 2.0 for States/UTs for the year 2021-22.

About PGI 2.0:

  • PGI – State structure for 2021-22 has been revised and renamed as PGI 2.0.
  • Objectives –
    • To align with new initiatives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
    • To monitor indicators relating to Goal 4 of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • 1st PGI – released in 2017-18.
  • Total weightage – 1000 points
  • 73 indicators under 2 Categories – Outcome and Governance Management (GM).
  • 6 domains –
    • Learning Outcomes (LO)
    • Access (A)
    • Infrastructure& Facilities (IF)
    • Equity (E)
    • Governance Process (GP)
    • Teachers Education and Training (TE&T)
  • 10 Assessment Grades –Daksh(Highest) andAkanshi-3 (Lowest)

About Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D):

  • It assesses the performance of the school education system at the district level by creating an index for comprehensive analysis.
  • Total weightage – 600 points
  • 83 indicators under 6 categories – Outcomes, Effective Classroom Transaction, Infrastructure Facilities & Student’s Entitlements, School Safety & Child Protection, Digital Learning and Governance Process. (12 domains)
