National Urban Digital Mission

National Urban Digital Mission (NUDM) would have new modules such as online booking of community centres and registration of properties.

  • Objective – Create a shared digital infrastructure for urban India.
  • Mission – Institutionalize a citizen-centric and ecosystem-driven approach to urban governance and service delivery across all cities and towns in India by 2024.
  • Launched by – Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) along with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY).
  • Help in supplementing Digital India initiative along with Smart Cities Mission.
  • Significance –
    • Integrates various digital initiatives of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
    • Provides holistic and diverse support tailored to local needs and challenges.
    • Inherits technology design principles from the National Urban Innovation Stack (NUIS).
  • India Urban Data Exchange (IUDX) –
    • An Open-source, secure, and authenticated data exchange platform.
    • Developed in partnership with IISc, Bengaluru.
    • Function – Serves as an interface for data sharing among Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and other stakeholders.
  • SmartCode Platform –
    • Purpose – Serves as a repository of open-source code for urban governance solutions.
    • Benefit – Helps ULBs customize existing codes to local needs, reducing the need for new solutions.
  • Geospatial Management Information System (GMIS) –
    • Web-based, spatially-enabled management system.
    • Function – Integrates information from multiple sources with search options by topic and geographic area.
