About National Supercomputing Mission:
- Launched in 2015.
- Objectives –
- To provide the country with supercomputing infrastructure
- To meet the increasing computational demands of academia, researchers, MSMEs, and startups.
- To make India a world leader in High-Performance Computing (HPC)
- Steered jointly by –Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY)
- Implemented by –Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
- Indian Supercomputers –
- 1st Supercomputer – PARAM 8000
- 1stindigenous supercomputer – PARAM Shivay
- Other Supercomputers in India – PARAM Shakti, PARAM Brahma, PARAM Yukti, PARAM Sanganak.
- Networking of supercomputers on the National Supercomputing grid over the National Knowledge Network (NKN).
A supercomputer is a computer that operates at or near the highest computational capacity, with PETAFLOP being a measure of its processing speed, denoting a thousand trillion floating point operations per second.
