  • Impact – Considered misleading advertisements, unfair trade practices, and violations of consumer rights.
  • Regulatory Measures –
    • Guidelines for Prevention & Regulation of Dark Patterns (2023): Defines and regulates 13 specific dark patterns under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
    • Dark Patterns Buster Hackathon (2023): Led to the development of consumer protection tools
    • Consumer Protection Tools –
      • Jagriti App – Enables users to directly report dark patterns on e-commerce platforms to the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA).
      • Jago Grahak Jago App – Shields consumers from malicious platforms and provides real-time safety scores for e-commerce links.
      • Jagriti Dashboard – A robust analytical tool generating detailed reports on dark patterns in e-commerce, supporting the CCPA’s oversight.
