About INS Arighaat
- India’s 2nd indigenously built nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN).
- It follows INS Arihant, India’s first nuclear submarine
- Built at the Indian Navy’s Ship Building Centre (SBC) in Visakhapatnam.
- Part of India’s nuclear triad, enabling nuclear missile launches from land, air, and sea.
- Specifications:
- Length: 111.6 meters
- Beam: 11 meters
- Draught: 9.5 meters
- Displacement: 6,000 tonnes
- Propulsion and Speed:
- Powered by a pressurised water reactor with a seven-blade propeller.
- Maximum speed: 12–15 knots (22–28 km/h) on surface, 24 knots (44 km/h) when submerged.
- Armament:
- Can carry up to four nuclear-capable K-4 SLBMs with a range of over 3,500 km.
- Capable of holding twelve K-15 SLBMs with a range of about 750 km, which can carry strategic nuclear warheads.
- Also equipped with torpedoes and mines.
- Safety Features:
- Includes two standby auxiliary engines.
- Equipped with a retractable thruster for emergency power and mobility.
