Railway Protection Force undertook various operations to safeguard railway passengers, properties etc.

  • Indian Central Armed Police Force in charge of railway protection
  • Under The Railway Protection Force Act, 1957
  • Ministry – Ministry of Railways
  • Aim – Protect and secure railway property, the passenger areas and the passengers themselves
  • Origin as ‘Watch and Ward’ set-up of the private railway companies during the British Raj.
  • Amended in 1985 to make RPF an armed force.
