Recently, Adani Group 1st private sector facility for the manufacture of ammunition and missiles opened in Kanpur(UP)

  • A route or a path along which domestic productions of defence equipment by public sector, private sector and MSMEs are lined up to enhance the operational capability of the defence forces.
  • Significance
    • Helps the country to be self-reliant in the field of defense production
    • Promoting ‘Make in India’ reducing our imports
    • Promote the export of these items to other countries
  • Infrastructure investments in a specific area to encourage industrial development
  • Benefits
    • Helps with economic development by providing infrastructure and logistics facilities
    • Attract investment, create jobs, and improve living standards
  • A dedicated region or area strategically planned to promote indigenous production of defence and aerospace-related items. 
  • India have 2 corridors
    • Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UP DIC)
    • Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor (TNDIC)
  • Nodal agency – Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA)
    • To execute this project in conjunction with various other state agencies
  • Planned across 6 nodes – Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, Agra, Aligarh, Chitrakoot
  • Only state to have all its districts covered under industrial corridor projects
  • Nodal Agency – Tamilnadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO)
    • Coordinates industrial and infrastructural development activities in these corridors with different agencies of Government
  • Comprises of 5 pivotal nodes – Chennai, Coimbatore, Hosur, Salem, and Tiruchirappalli
  • Strategic advantages –
    • Airports – 4 international airports (Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai) and 2 domestic airports (Tuticorin, Salem)
    • Surplus power supply
    • Chennai’s connectivity – Chennai is connected globally by three submarine cables
