Disease X
World Economic Forum is set to begin session on novel ‘Disease X’.
- A theoretical term and “X” refers to “unexpected”.
- WHO introduced Disease X in 2018 to represent an unknown pathogen that could cause a serious international epidemic.
- WHO placed Disease X alongside other high-priority diseases such as Ebola and Zika virus.
Imphal River
The heavy fuel from Leimakhong Power Station in Manipur spilled into a stream which joins Imphal River.
- Origin – Northern hills of Karong in Senapati District.
- Joined by Iril River at Lilong.
- Famous Loktak Lake is located here.
Pakke Paga Hornbill Festival (PPHF)
A three-day conservation festival PPHF began in Arunachal Pradesh.
- Aim – To recognise the role of Nyishi tribe in conserving hornbills in Pakke Tiger Reserve (PTR).
- PTR harbours 4 species of the hornbill – Wreathed, Great Indian, Oriental Pied and the endangered Rufous-necked.
- Nyishi – Largest tribes of Arunachal Pradesh
