The recently released World Air Quality Report for 2024 has termed Byrnihat as the “most polluted city in the world”.
- Located on – Meghalaya-Assam border
- Reasons for high pollution level –
- “Bowl-like” topography of the region with the surrounding hills inhibiting the dispersal of pollutants in the air.
- Proximity to coal reserves in Meghalaya and the large urban centre of Guwahati
- Presence of polluting industries like the production of coke (fuel), cement, ferro alloys, and steel, and in distillation and brickmaking.

Israeli-American psychologist Daniel Kahneman, a Nobel Prize winner, passed away at an assisted suicide facility in Switzerland.

- Used as an end-of-life option for individuals suffering from a painful, terminal illness.
- Types –
- Active – Comprises direct action to cause death.
- Passive – Comprises withholding or withdrawing life-sustaining treatments ventilators or feeding tubes.
- Active Euthanasia is prohibited in India in while Passive Euthanasia is legalised under strict conditions.

Scientists have confirmed a fourth form of water called Plastic Ice VII
- An unusual phase of ice that forms at high temperature and high pressure
- This phase allows water molecules to rotate freely within a rigid crystalline structure.
- The discovery can changes our understanding of water in space.
