Indian Army contingent leaves for counter terrorism field training exercise in Russia.

  • Yudh Abhyas- 23: An annual exercise conducted jointly by Indian Army and United States Army.
  • Counter Terrorism Field Training Exercise (FTX) 2023: A multinational joint military exercise conducted by ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) Plus Expert Working Group.

Galactic tides

In astronomy, understanding galactic tides is crucial to understand the complex dynamics and evolution of galaxies over cosmological time.

  • They result from gravitational forces within a galaxy, and occur during interactions between celestial objects such as stars and gas clouds.
  • These tidal forces influence various aspects of a galaxy’s evolution.
  • They can reshape a galaxy structure by promoting star formation, and disrupting smaller star systems.
  • They affect the supermassive black holes located at the centre of galaxies.

Mushkoh Valley & Gurez Valley

High-altitude passes within the Gurez valley, located in northern Kashmir, are now linked to the Mushkoh valley.

  • Mushkoh Valley: Located in Dras (Ladakh), the Mushkoh valley is also renowned as the “valley of wild tulips”.
  • Gurez Valley: Close to the Line of Control (LoC) with the Kishanganga River demarcating the line in several parts. It is one of the sites of the Kargil war.

National Building Code of India, 2016

Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) stated that Joshimath town is not in compliance with the National Building Code of India, 2016.

  • It serves as a Model Code for adoption by all agencies involved in building construction works be they Public Works Departments, other government construction departments, local bodies or private construction agencies.
  • Published by – Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)

Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has notified Veerangana Durgavati reserve as a Tiger reserve.

  • 7th Tiger Reserve in the State of Madhya Pradesh and 54th in the country.
  • Areas: Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary and Durgavati Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • Parts of the reserve fall under the Narmada and Yamuna River basins.
  • Establishment of new Tiger Reserves in a state is governed by the National Tiger Conservation Authority
