Govt to launch Umeed portal to digitise, regulate Waqf properties

  • Full Name: Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development (UMEED) Portal
  • Purpose: Centralized digital platform for registering Waqf properties across India
  • Goal: Enhance transparency and improve management of Waqf assets
  • Introduced after the enactment of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Registration Authority: Managed by respective State Waqf Boards
  • Mandatory Registration: All Waqf properties must be registered within six months of portal launch
  • Detailed Registration: Each property entry must include exact measurements and geotagged locations
  • Gender-Based Exclusion: Properties in women’s names cannot be classified as Waqf properties
  • Beneficiaries: Women, children, and economically weaker sections remain primary beneficiaries of Waqf assets
  • Extensions: Unregistered properties can apply for a 1-2 month extension due to valid reasons

  • Central Waqf Council (CWC): Statutory body under the Ministry of Minority Affairs, established in 1964 to advise the Central Government on Waqf Board operations.
