Defence Acquisition Council (DAC):
- Top decision-making body in the defence ministry for procurement.
- Objective – To ensure quick procurement of the armed forces’ approved needs, using the allocated budget efficiently.
- Established in – 2001, following the Group of Ministers’ recommendations on ‘Reforming the National Security System’ after the Kargil War (1999).

- Addresses issues related to single vendor clearance.
- Makes decisions on ‘offset’ provisions for acquisition proposals over Rs 300 crore.
