CBSE urges teachers to gear up for National Credit Framework
National Credit Framework:
- National Credit Framework – Set of guidelines to be followed by schools, colleges and universities in adopting the credit system
- Launched in – 2022
- Unveiled by – Union Ministry of Education
- Formulated under – University Grants Commission (Establishment and Operation of Academic Bank of Credits in Higher Education) Regulations
- Features –
- Provides a mechanism to ensure equivalence within and between general and vocational education
- Provides multiple entry and exit options to a student who wants to leave school or enrol in vocational learning
- Will validate home-schooling students by giving them diplomas and certificates
- Working – It divides the educational ecosystem into 8 levels from Class 5 to PhD level and assigns credit on the basis of learning hours.
- Significance – Brought the entire school education system under the ambit of credits for the first time.
- Established Academic Bank of Credits – All the credits earned by a learner would be stored in a digital repository to enable the transfer of credit across higher education institutions.
University Grants Commission:
- Established in – 1953
- Status – Became a Statutory body by an Act of Parliament in 1956
- Mandate – Coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of teaching, examination and research in university education.
