  • 19th century social reformer
  • Born in – 1836, West Bengal
  • Known as – Gadadhar Chattopadhyaya
  • Served as a priest at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple
  • Devoted his life to the worship of Goddess Kali
  • Studied various religious traditions, including Tantra, Bhakti, Vaishnavism, Advaita Vedanta, Christianity, and Islam.
  • Teachings –
    • Believed all the religions lead up to a single goal – God
    • Didn’t believed in caste differentiations, he even embraced the sceptics
  • Disciple – Swami Vivekananda
  • Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission to spread his teachings and engage in social service.
  • Passed away in – 1886
