On 1st April 2025, Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan hosted an international seminar to mark the 100th anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to China (1924)
Rabindranath Tagore:
- Birth – Calcutta, 7th May 1861.
- Son of Debendranath Tagore, a prominent philosopher and religious reformer.
- Titles – Gurudev, Kabiguru, Biswakabi.
- Popularly known as Bard of Bengal,
- 1st non-European to win Nobel Prize in Literature (1913) for Gitanjali.
- Renounced British knighthood after Jallianwala Bagh Massacre (1919).
- Composed Jana Gana Mana—India’s National Anthem and Amar Sonar Bangla – Bangladesh’s National Anthem.
- Founded Visva-Bharati University in 1921 (learning in harmony with nature; motto: “Where the world meets in one nest”).
- Established Cheena Bhavana in 1937 to promote Indo-Chinese ties.
- Contributions to Art and Literature –
- Poetry: Gitanjali, Balaka, Sonar Tori.
