Prime Minister pays tributes to Maharana Pratap on his Jayanti

  • Dynasty: Sisodia Rajput clan of Mewar, Rajasthan.
  • Birthplace: Kumbhalgarh Fort, Rajasthan.
  • Parents: Udai Singh II (Founder of Udaipur) and Jaiwanta Bai.
  • Successor: Maharana Amar Singh I.
  • Refused to submit to Mughal Emperor Akbar, unlike other Rajput rulers.
  • Battle of Haldighati (1576):
    • Fought between Maharana Pratap and Akbar’s forces led by Man Singh I of Amber.
    • Mughals won, but failed to capture Maharana Pratap.
  • Resurgence (Post-1579):
    • Akbar’s focus shifted due to rebellions in Bengal & Bihar.
    • Maharana Pratap recovered Western Mewar, including Kumbhalgarh, Udaipur, and Gogunda.
    • Established a new capital at Chavand near modern-day Dungarpur.
  • Died in 1597
