Madame Bhikaji Cama:
- A noted Indian independence activist.
- Born on – September 24, 1861 in Bombay, British India
- Actively participated in the Indian freedom movement and advocated for Swaraj (self-rule).
- In 1907, she made history by being the 1st person to hoist the Indian flag in Germany, which was designed by Cama and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
- Established Paris Indian Society with co-founders Munchershah Burjorji Godrej and S.R. Rana.
- It was established as a branch of Indian Home Rule Society, founded by noted Indian revolutionary Shyamji Krishna Varma.
- Literary works – ‘Bande Mataram’ and ‘Madan’s Talwar.’
- ‘Madan’s Talwar’ was named after Indian revolutionary independence activist Madan Lal Dhingra, who had assassinated Curzon Wyllie.
- Death – August 13, 1936
- A commemorative stamp was issued in her honour by the Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department on the 11th Republic Day of India in 1962.
