Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan:
- A scholar, philosopher, and statesman who played a significant role in shaping modern Indian thought and education.
- Born in – 1888, in Tamil Nadu
- Served as the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University and Banaras Hindu University.
- Elected to the Constituent Assembly in 1946.
- Served as the Ambassador of India to the Soviet Union from 1949 to 1952.
- Became the 1st Vice-President of India (1952-1962)
- Served as the President of India from 1962-1967
- Important works – “The Hindu View of Life,” “An Idealist View of Life,” and “The Philosophy of Upanishads.”
- Awards –
- Knighted in 1931 and known as Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan until 1947.
- Awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, in 1954.
- Legacy – His birthday, September 5, is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India to honour his contributions to education and philosophy.
