Chandrasekhara Venkata (C.V) Raman:
- Born in 1888 in Tamil Nadu
- Founded Indian Journal of Physics and Indian Academy of Sciences, registered as Society under Societies Registration Act in 1934.
- Won Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930
- Became the 1st Asian to receive Nobel Prize in Physics
- Awarded Bharat Ratna in 1954.
- One of the recipients who got the Bharat Ratna for the 1st time in 1954 (along with S. Radhakrishnan and C. Rajagopalachari).
- National Science Day(February 28) is celebrated every year to commemorate his discovery of the Raman Effect in 1928.
- Raman Effect – A phenomenon when a stream of light passes through a liquid, a fraction of light scattered by liquid is of a different colour
- Raman, a lunar crater, is named after Sir CV Raman.
- Died in – 1970
