The Prime Minister inaugurated the redeveloped Kochrab ashram

  • Location – Kochrab village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, Gujarat
  • Founded by – Mahatma Gandhi in 1915
    • Gandhi received it from his fellow lawyer and colleague, Jeevanlal Desai.
  • Significance – 1st ashram built by Gandhi following his return to India from South Africa
  • Also called – Satyagraha Ashram
  • Architecture – Colonial-style building with a white-washed facade.
  • Redeveloped under – Gandhi Ashram Memorial and Precinct Development project
  • Sabarmati Ashram –
    • On the banks of – Sabarmati river, Gujarat
    • Significance – Gandhi started his historic Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram
  • Sevagram Ashram, Maharashtra
  • Phoenix Farm, South Africa
    • Gandhi’s 1st Ashram in South Africa (1904)
