Sohrai Painting:
- Indigenous Mural Art form practiced by tribal women in Jharkhand
- Also practised in the states of Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal.
- Origins – Dates back to the Meso-chalcolithic period (9000-5000 BC).
- Isko Rock Shelter located in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand has rock paintings similar to traditional Sohrai paintings.
- Themes – Based on natural elements like forests, rivers, and animals.
- Materials – Made using natural substances such as charcoal, clay, or soil.
- Known for vibrant colours, intricate patterns, and symbolic motifs.
- GI Tag – Hazaribagh in Jharkhand has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Sohrai art.
- Recognised as an ODOP (One District, One Product) item
One District One Product (ODOP):
- Initiated by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries to maximize district potential, promote economic and socio-cultural growth, and create rural employment.
- Implemented in integration with Districts as Exports Hub
- Districts as Exports Hub is implemented by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Department of Commerce
- It provides financial and technical support to district-level industries to boost small-scale industries and local employment.
- Objectives –
- Focuses on identifying, promoting, and branding a unique product from each district.
- Aims to transform every district into an export hub by promoting specialized products, supporting local businesses, and finding international customers.
