  • Leader of the Nationalist movement
  • Born in – 1858 in Sylhet (now in Bangladesh).
  • One of the triumvirates of the 3 great extremist nationalist freedom fighters, popularly known as “Lal Bal Pal
  • Popularized the concepts of Swadeshi and Swaraj (complete independence).
  • Preached ‘composite patriotism’ as against Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s Hindu nationalism.
  • Was imprisoned for 6 months in the Bande Mataram sedition case.
  • Wrote on the philosophy of Bengal Vaishnavism.
  • Important publicationsBande Mataram (daily), New India (Weekly Journal), Hindu Review (Monthly)
  • Died on – May 20, 1932 in Kolkata
