Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed to implement the Modified Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal-ERCP (Modified PKC-ERCP) Link Project.

  • States – Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan
  • Ministry – Ministry of Jalshakti
  • Aim – To address drought issues in Eastern Rajasthan, and Malwa and Chambal regions of Madhya Pradesh
  • PKC link project – One of the 30 links included in the National Perspectives Plan
  • Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) – To provide drinking and industrial water to 13 districts of eastern Rajasthan like Alwar, Jaipur, Ajmer etc.
  • Aims at Intra-basin transfer of water within the Chambal basin
  • Also called – National River Linking Project
  • Year – 1980
  • Formulated by – Ministry of Irrigation (now Ministry of Water Resources) and the Central Water Commission
  • Nodal Agency – National Water Development Agency
  • Aim – Transferring water from water-surplus basins to water-deficit basins
  • Total projects – 30 links (16 under the Peninsular Component and 14 under the Himalayan Component)
  • Origin – Vindhya Range, Madhya Pradesh
  • States – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
  • Mouth – Empty into Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Main tributaries –
    • Left-hand tributaries- Banas and Mej
    • Right hand tributaries – Parbati, Kali Sindh and Shipra
  • Important dams – Gandhi Sagar dam, Rana Pratap Sagar dam and Jawahar Sagar Dam
  • Protected Areas – National Chambal Sanctuary (Gharials), Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve
