Maitri Setu and Feni River

Context:

Maitri Setu will give India’s north-eastern region and landlocked countries like Bhutan and Nepal access to the Bay of Bengal.

Maitri Setu (Friendship Bridge):

  • Built over – Feni River
  • Links Tripura in India with Chittagong port in Bangladesh.
  • Joins Sabroom (in Tripura) with Ramgarh in Bangladesh.
  • It is a pre-stressed concrete bridge.

About Feni River:

  • Trans-boundary river in south-eastern Bangladesh and Tripura state of India.
  • Origin: South Tripura district
  • Passes through Sabroom town on the Indian side
  • Drains into – Bay of Bengal
  • Tributaries: Muhuri (Little Feni) River, Raidak River, Chandkhira River, Ryang River and Kushiyara River.
