Water levels of the Pindar and Nandakini river in Chamoli have seen a sharp increase.
About River Nandakini:
- One of the tributaries of the Ganges River.
- Origin: Glaciers below Nanda Ghunti mountain
- City on river bank – Chamoli district, Uttarakhand (Garhwal region)
- Joins the Alaknanda at Nandprayag (one of the panchprayags)
- Combined waters of the Nandakini and Alaknanda form the Ganges River.
- Surrounded by Himalayan peaks – Nanda Devi, Trisul, and Kamet.
- Significance – Nandprayag Temple (built by Adi Shankaracharya) and Badrinath Temple
- Major tributary – Pindar River.
- Protected Areas – Nanda Devi National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Valley of Flowers National Park.
About River Ganges:
- Source – Ganga flows as Bhagirathi from the Gangotri Glaciers; Bhagirathi is joined by the Alaknanda at Devprayag
- Left Bank Tributaries – Ramganga,Gomati,Ghaghara,Gandak,BurhiGandak,Bagmati,andKosi.
- Right Bank Tributaries – Chambal, Sind, Betwa, Ken, Yamuna, Rishiganga, Uma, Hanuman Ganga, Tons, Hindon
- Drainage Countries – China, Nepal, India and Bangladesh.
- Catchment states – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand Rajasthan, West Bengal, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi (UT).
