Recently, Save Wetlands Campaign concluded with huge success

  • Launched by –  Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC)
  • Launched on – World Wetlands Day (WWD) 2023 (2nd February )
    • Structured on a “whole of society” approach for wetlands conservation.
    • Activities delineated under the Amrit Dharohar initiative 
    • Theme of WWD – ‘Wetlands and human wellbeing’
  • Aim– wetlands conservation, enabling affirmative actions for wetlands conservation at all levels of the society and involving all strata of the society
  • It is in line with the Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) and follows the philosophy of Mission Sahbhagita.

India’s wetlands – Roughly equals to about 4.8% of its geographical area.

  • Launched by –  Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC)
  • Launched in – 2022.
  • Aim – To have a healthy and effectively managed network of wetlands of national and international significance.
  • It enables a society ownership approach for wise use of Wetlands ad participatory conservation
  • Lauded as part of the 2023-24 budget announcement
  • Aim – To be implemented in convergence with various Central Government ministries and agencies, State Wetland Authorities, and a network of formal and informal institutions and individuals, working together for a common cause.
  • MoEF&CC has collaborated with –
    • Ministry of Tourism (MoT) for enhancing nature tourism around Ramsar Sites
    • Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), for developing digital educational content for school students across the country
    • National Museum for Natural History (NMNH) and Eco-Clubs under the National Green Corps programme for engaging school and college students in different activities and raising mass awareness.
  • An India-led global mass movement
  • Aim – To nudge individual and community action to protect and preserve the environment.
  • Launched on – 2021 – The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26)
  • It emboldens P3 modelPro Planet People.
  • It functions on the basic principles of ‘Lifestyle of the planet, for the planet and by the planet’.
  • It aims at following a 3-pronged strategy
    • Nudging individuals to practice simple yet effective environment-friendly actions in their daily lives (demand)
    • Enabling industries and markets to respond swiftly to the changing demand (supply)
    • To influence government and industrial policy to support both sustainable consumption and production (policy).
