Odisha government translocated a tigress from Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra to the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha.
Similipal Tiger Reserve:
- Location – Odisha
- Named after the ‘Simul’ (Silk Cotton) tree.
- Designated as a tiger reserve under Project Tiger in 1973.
- Part of UNESCO’s list of Biosphere Reserve.
- Nearby river – Burhabalanga and Deo
- Forest type – Tropical moist deciduous forests.
- Inhabited by indigenous tribes like Kolha, Santhala, Bhumija, Gondas, and Sahara.
- They worship sacred groves called Jharia.
Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve:
- Location – Maharashtra (largest national park in the state).
- Tadoba/Taru is the local deity revered by the tribal people in the area.
- Nearby river – Andhari and Tadoba river
- Has corridor linkages with Nagzira-Navegaon and Pench Tiger Reserves within the State.
- Forest type – Tropical dry deciduous
