Odisha government translocated a tigress from Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra to the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha.

  • Location – Odisha
  • Named after the ‘Simul’ (Silk Cotton) tree.
  • Designated as a tiger reserve under Project Tiger in 1973.
  • Part of UNESCO’s list of Biosphere Reserve.
  • Nearby river – Burhabalanga and Deo
  • Forest type – Tropical moist deciduous forests.
  • Inhabited by indigenous tribes like Kolha, Santhala, Bhumija, Gondas, and Sahara.
    • They worship sacred groves called Jharia.
  • Location – Maharashtra (largest national park in the state).
    • Tadoba/Taru is the local deity revered by the tribal people in the area.
  • Nearby river – Andhari and Tadoba river
  • Has corridor linkages with Nagzira-Navegaon and Pench Tiger Reserves within the State.
  • Forest type – Tropical dry deciduous
