Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

Drying of Tamulidoba Beel in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is a growing concern.

  • Location – Assam
  • Consists of – Rajamayong Reserve Forest and Pobitora Reserve Forest
  • River – On the southern bank of Brahmaputra River
  • As part of Indian Rhinoceros Vision, 2020 (IRV), 8 Rhinos were translocated from PWS into Manas National Park.
  • Significance 
    • Highest density of Greater One Horned Rhinoceros in the world
    • Important Bird Area as per Birdlife International
    • Often referred as ‘Mini Kaziranga’ – Similarity of landscape, floral, and faunal distribution
  • About 72% of area consists of wet savannah and remaining area is covered by water bodies
  • Water hyacinth, an invasive aquatic plant, acts a major threat to the area
  • Tamulidoba Beel – A famous wetland in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
