Former forest official appealed to Chief Minister to immediately stop the grant of three acres of land within the swampy grasslands (Hadlus) in Nagarahole National Park to claimants
Nagarhole National Park:
- Located in – Karnataka (Western Ghats)
- Part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
- Also known as ‘Rajiv Gandhi National Park’.
- Nagarahole River flows through the park, while the Kabini River forms a boundary with Bandipur National Park.
- Declared as the 37th Tiger reserve under Project Tiger in 1999.
- Vegetation – Dominated by moist deciduous forests, with teak and rosewood as key tree species.
- Fauna – Asian elephants, tigers, leopards, Chital (spotted deer), Grey langur, bonnet macaque.
Hadlus:
- Swampy grasslands found in Nagarahole National Park, Karnataka
- Moist grasslands located in transitional zones between terrestrial grasslands and wetlands.
- Lack a significant tree canopy, differentiating them from swamps.
- Also distinct from typical grasslands due to their higher moisture content.
- Ecological Importance – Supports the food chain by housing herbivores, which are prey for predators like tigers.
