National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has granted approval for the designation of Madhav National Park as a Tiger Reserve.

  • Location – Madhya Pradesh
  • Set to become 9th Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Situated in the upper Vindhyan hills.
  • Lakes – Sakhya Sagar and Madhav Sagar
  • Forest Type – Comprises Northern tropical dry deciduous mixed forests and Dry Thorn Forests
  • Flora – Key tree species include Kardhai, Salai, Dhaora, and Khair.
  • Fauna – Known for antelopes like Nilgai, Chinkara, and Chowsinga, as well as deer species such as Chital, Sambar, and Barking Deer.
  • Other Tiger Reserves in Madhya Pradesh – Kanha, Satpura, Bandhavgarh, Pench Tiger Reserve, Sanjay Dubri, Panna Tiger Reserve, Veerangana Durgavati and Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary (awaiting government notification)
  • Tiger Population in India – Madhya Pradesh has the highest tiger population in India, followed by Karnataka and Uttarakhand
