Living Animal Species (Reporting and Registration) Rules, 2024

Notification of Rules framed under Section 49M of the WPA 1972 have been released by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC)

  • Rules notified under Section 63 of Wild Life (Protection) Act (WPA), 1972 for the purpose of Section 49M of the WPA, 1972.
  • Section 49 M – Added through Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Act, 2022.
    • Provides for registration of possession, transfer, and birth and reporting of death of living scheduled animal species which are listed in Appendices of CITES or Schedule IV of WPA, 1972.
  • Mandatory electronic registration for any possession of any animal species within 6 months
    • Within 30 days of possession of an animal species, registration to the concerned State Chief Wild Life Warden, through the PARIVESH 2.0 portal
  • Birth reporting of an offspring of animal species and apply for registration within a period of 7 days
  • Reporting and registration of transfer within 15 days
  • Maintenance of stock of those who engaged in captive breeding with routine health checks, monitoring animal species escapes, etc
  • Pro-Active and Responsive facilitation by Interactive, Virtuous and Environmental Single-window Hub
  • An environmental single window hub for environment, forest, wildlife and coastal environment  clearances
  • Developed in pursuance of the spirit of ‘Digital India’
  • Ministry – Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
