Mission Amrit Sarovar

Mission Amrit Sarovar has built over 68,000 ponds, significantly addressing water scarcity.

  • Launched in – 2022 
  • Part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • Objective – Developing / rejuvenating 75 Amrit Sarovars (Pond) in each district of the Country
  • Launched with a whole of Government Approach which involves 6 Ministries/Departments
    • Dept of Rural Development
    • Department of land resources
    • Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation
    • Department of Water resources
    • Ministry of Panchayati Raj
    • Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate changes.
  • Budget – No separate financial allocation 
  • Bhaskar acharya National Institute for Space Application and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) has been engaged as Technical partner for the Mission.
  • The mission integrates schemes like MGNREGS and PMKSY
  • Besides water conservation, it focuses on people’s participation
    • Local freedom fighters, their family members, Martyr’s family members, Padma Awardee and citizens of the local area wherein an Amrit Sarovar is to be constructed, will be engaged at all stages
