Context:
Recently, Cabinet approved Rs 75,000 crore ‘free electricity’ solar scheme.
PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana:
- Aim –To provide 300 units of ‘free electricity’ every month to 1 crore households through rooftop solar installations
- Ministry: Ministry of New & Renewable Energy
- Central subsidy –
- 60% of the cost for installing for 2 kW systems
- 40% of the cost for systems from 2-3 kW capacity
- Systems of higher wattage are not eligible
- Structure of Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for Residential RTS –
- up to Rs. 30,000/- per kW up to 2 kW
- up to Rs. 18,000/- per kW for additional capacity up to 3 kW
- up to Rs 78,000 for systems larger than 3 kW
- Loan for installation of residential RTS –
- Up to 3 kW, households can access collateral-free low-interest loan products of around 7% for installation of RTS systems
- National Portal facilitates households –
- With subsidies applications and finding a suitable vendor for installing rooftop solar
- In decision-making by providing relevant information needed
- Model Solar Village – For the adoption of RTS in rural areas 1 village will be developed in each district to act as a role model
- Incentives to local bodies – Incentivises Urban Local Bodies and Panchayati Raj Institutions to promote RTS installations in their areas
- Solar capacity addition –30 GW of solar capacity addition through RTS in residential sector
