Recently, India becomes the second largest country in fish production

  • 2nd largest fish producing country with around 8% share in global fish production.
  • 2nd in aquaculture production, leads in shrimp production and 3rd in capture fisheries production
  • Major fish producing states – Andhra Pradesh, followed by West Bengal
  • Inland fisheries contribute more than 75% of total fisheries output.
  • Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana  (PMMSY): Enhances aquaculture productivity, improves fisheries management, and establishes integrated aquaparks.
  • Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY): Aims to address sector weaknesses through financial and technological interventions.
  • Blue Revolution Scheme: Integrated development and management of fisheries, covering both marine and inland fisheries.
  • Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF): Provides funding for the creation of infrastructure in both marine and inland fisheries.
  • National Marine Fisheries Policy 2017: Guides the conservation and management of India’s marine fishery resources.
