PM Gram Sadak Yojana

Gram Sadak Yojana will connect 25,000 new rural areas with all-weather roads: Union Budget 2024

  • Launched on – 25th December, 2000.
  • Objective – To provide connectivity, by way of an all-weather road to unconnected habitations.
  • Ministry – Ministry of Rural Development
  • Eligibility – Population size >500 in plain areas and >250 in hills and other difficult areas.
  • Funding Pattern – Started as a 100 % centrally sponsored scheme
    • However, was revised to a 60:40 ratio between Centre and State in 2015-16, and a 90:10 ratio for Northeastern States and Himalayan States.
  • 4 verticals of the scheme – PMGSY I, PMGSY II, Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Areas (RCPLWEA), and PMGSY III.
  • Construction of Rural Roads under the PMGSY – Held in accordance with the provision of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC).
    • IRC – Apex Body of Highway Engineers in the country set up in 1934.
