The Union Cabinet approved a five-year extension and expansion of the Digital India programme, including the Computer Emergency Response Team, India (CERT-in) expansion.
About Digital India Programme:
- Launched in 2015.
- Mission –To provide digital infrastructure as a core utility, deliver governance and services on demand, and digitally empower all citizens.
- Objectives –To provide high-speed internet in rural areas, establish accessible Common Service Centres (CSCs), and synchronize various ideas and schemes for a comprehensive vision.
- Achievements –
- Introduced Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for widespread digital payments.
- Implemented e-KYC, DigiLocker, and eSign for streamlined business processes.
- JAM Trinity (Jan Dhan, Aadhar, Mobile) initially aimed at reducing leaks.
About Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In):
- Operational since 2004.
- Ministry – Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
- Objective –To secure Indian cyberspace.
- Nodal agency for cybersecurity threats like hacking and phishing.
- Empowered by – Information Technology Act, 2000.
About DigiLocker:
- Aim –To digitize documents for easy verification and storage.
- Ministry –Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
- Comes under – ‘Digital India’ programme
- Stores documents like insurance, PAN card, certificates digitally.
- Stores e-document URIs from various issuer departments.
