India Launches DHRUVA Policy to Standardize Digital Addresses through Geo-Coded Infrastructure
DHRUVA:
- A national-level Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) designed to provide every home in India with a unique digital address
- Introduced by – Department of Posts (DoP)
- Objective –
- Establish address information management as a critical public infrastructure.
- Enhance governance, service delivery, and user experience through digitalization.
Key Components:
- Digital Postal Index Number (DIGIPIN) – A 10-digit alphanumeric code mapping geographic coordinates (latitude & longitude).
- Developed using 4×4 meter grids across India.
- Uniquely identifies locations with geospatial data.
- Digital Address Layer – User-centric & consent-based system built on DIGIPIN.
- Allows individuals to create customized labels for their DIGIPIN.
- Enables descriptive address representation.
