Union Cabinet approves revision of Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme.
Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP):
- Implemented across the country since 2022 with the primary aim of reducing risks to animal health.
- Objective – To enhance the animal health sector through vaccination programs against various livestock and poultry diseases.
- Key Components –
- National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP)
- Livestock Health & Disease Control (LH&DC)
- Critical Animal Disease Control Programme (CADCP) – Sub component of LH&DC
- Targets 2 critical diseases—Peste des Petits Ruminants and Swine fever
- Pashu Aushadhi – A new component aimed at improving the availability of generic veterinary medicines through networks like PM-Kisan Samriddhi Kendra and Cooperative Societies.
Other Livestock Promotion Steps:
- National Livestock Mission (NLM): Focuses on entrepreneurship development and breed improvement in poultry, sheep, goat, and piggery, including feed and fodder development.
- Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF): Aims to increase milk and meat processing capacity.
- Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM): Enhances bovine productivity and milk production.
- Establishment and Strengthening of Veterinary Hospitals and Dispensaries (ESVHD-MVU): Supports door-step delivery of livestock healthcare.
- Assistance to States for Control of Animal Diseases (ASCAD): Targets state-prioritized exotic, emergent, and zoonotic animal diseases, including Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).
