  • Natural renewable and biodegradable fiber.
  • Also known as – Golden fibre.
  • Climatic Conditions –
    • Grows well on alluvial soil
    • Requires high temperature, heavy rainfall and humid climate
  • 1st jute mill established at – West Bengal, on the river Hooghly
  • Leading states – West Bengal, Assam, Orissa, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura and Meghalaya.
  • India is the largest producer of raw jute and jute goods
  • 2nd largest exporter after Bangladesh.
  • National Jute Board, Ministry of Textiles, acts as the apex body for promotion of the products in India and abroad.
